![]() NanoCAD does offer floating licences except they demand the floaters be on the same network. So that would mean I'd have to buy 2 copies even though only one would ever be running at a time. I work on drawings at home and at the office and they're allowing only one CPU period. I'd probably go with DraftSight except their licensing sucks for me. (Free for hobbyists or companies doing less than x$ business.) It's also twice the price of DraftSight.Īs for DraftSight ransoming our drawings, is that really true? Can't we store them on our hardware and access them with any DFX or DWG tool? This is not like Fusion360 where you really are ransomed except they have a really generous licencing agreement. ![]() I hope nanoCAD doesn't pull the same trick on us. ![]() Kcress - RE: Draftsight 2019 - no longer Free SBaugh (Mechanical) I'm glad to hear there are some alternatives. It would appear and in the time it took to read the file name it would vaporize it and my antiV would pop up a window to inform me of a 'save'. Hilariously my anti virus program found and nixed the keycracker every time it opened. I thought about using a cracked version to keep the files on MY computer instead of their cloud. So today the same thing 'you must activate (again!)' but with that nasty in- red you shall bend over after December. Really aggravating, especially since the activation process was broken about half the time. I've always cursed the Dassault idiots because on two computers at least one would be whining about needing to be "activated" every rare time I opened it. I use DraftSight about 10 times a year to cobble up a cnc router part or a field wiring diagram. In today's 2D CAD environment, there is a plethora of choices and capable tools.Just smashed my face into this too. AutoCAD has been a staple in 2D CAD for years, but with Autodesk's recent changes to their licensing models, it has become a tool that no longer offers versatile licensing options. Learn the SOLIDWORKS Electrical DraftSight integration allows you to easily edit your electrical. Not only did Autodesk eliminate perpetual licensing back in 2016, but over the last two years, they have slowly worked to phase out network licensing options, requiring any user that needs access to the software to have their own login. Article by Justin Flett updated November 1, 2016. DraftSight: A Flexible Alternative to AutoCAD On the surface, this seems like a good compromise for light users, but companies need to pay close attention to their usage – the cost of daily tokens can add up quickly.įor many companies, this is not cost-effective because they do not work exclusively in 2D, so users are not working daily within the software.įor lighter AutoCAD users, Autodesk did introduce “flex” licensing, where companies can purchase tokens to pay only for days when they use the software. What if we told you Dassault Systèmes offers a nearly identical 2D tool, with more licensing flexibility, for a fraction of the cost? Not to mention, it also integrates directly into your SOLIDWORKS design environment. ![]() Networking licensing options that allow you to share licenses among user groups.Subscription and term licensing options so that your software has the latest enhancements.Perpetual licenses to allow you to own the software.Enter DraftSight.ĭraftSight not only offers the same reliability and functionality you expect from a 2D drafting tool, it also gives you flexibility in licensing. These options make it so that users can get exactly what they want from their 2D drafting tool. Network licensing helps reduce overall operational costs. The DraftSight for SOLIDWORKS PDM add-in is a connector for DraftSight Professional, Premium, and Enterprise. Plus, with DraftSight, you have the added benefit of the software integrating with SOLIDWORKS, unifying not only your software solutions, but the software vendors you must manage. This add-in allows a user to perform file vault operations from within the DraftSight application. If you only need to open 2D CAD files once or twice a year, then AutoCAD’s new token licensing model might be a fit for you. New for DraftSight 2022 is a dark mode which darkens menus and ribbons along with the rest of the UI. However, if you use 2D files on any kind of regular basis, if you are an existing SOLIDWORKS user, or if you are a casual AutoCAD user, DraftSight is a 2D CAD solution that can address your needs and reduce costs. Simply access Options > System Options > Display > User Interface Style and choose the Dark option to enable dark mode. How You Can Potentially Save Money Switching From AutoCAD to DraftSight You will need to restart DraftSight for the changes to take effect. Not only does DraftSight offer both perptual and term licenses, but the term license cost outweighs that of AutoCAD and offers networking capbilities. ![]()
